Cyber Safety is Everyone's Business
We at MISD take the safety of our students very seriously. Please join us for a free Community Awareness presentation on Cyber Safety, to be held Tuesday, February 7 from 6:30-7:30 pm at the L.A. Mills Administration Building. Parents and students are encouraged to attend to learn more about Internet safety.
A Learning Adventure is coming this summer
Midlothian ISD is offering for the first time the Academic Camp for Elementary (ACE) this summer. To sign up, visit the L.A. Mills Administration Building on February 23, from 6-8p, with a completed registration form and payment. Classes must have at least ten students to be held at ACE. STAAR To Debut This Spring
This spring a new testing journey begins with the launch of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness or STAAR. This new standardized testing program includes tests for students in grades 3-12. More
Pitts and School Board Recognize Students
Texas Representative Jim Pitts gave congratulatory remarks to students during the School Board special recognition that was held January 24. MISD had three National Merit Commended Scholars last year including Andrew Hernandez, Rachel Hurst and Noah Rodgers. Hernandez was also recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar for 2011.
Thirty-three students were recognized as Advance Placement Scholars this year, with 23 of those scholars graduating in 2011. The AP scholars include McKenna Maxwell, Morgan Motley, Robert Parish, Grayson Ridge Sydney Smith, John Toon, Akshar Ved and Rebecca Walker. MISD Citizens Academy
The first annual MISD Citizens Academy is an exciting program that involves 23 parents and community members who are learning more about their school district. In 6 monthly sessions, participants go behind the scenes to meet staff, learn how the district operates and how it creates a climate of success in both academics and extra-curricular activities. More
Gifted & Talented Screening Begins
Gifted and Talented screening process begun January 23 with the Kindergarten nomination window running from Jan. 23 through Feb. 3, 2012. Students identified as gifted and talented will be served by March 1, 2012. All other elementary and secondary GT screenings will be conducted in April, with testing being conducted in May. Parents of elementary students may request a nomination packet by contacting your child’s teacher. If you have any questions regarding the nomination or screening process, please contact your child’s counselor.
