muddy runners25 Longbranch students enjoyed getting dirty as they participated in the 1.2 mile "Dirty Scurry Mud Run", benefiting Cooks Childrens Hospital. Last year there were 400 runners and this year 1200 runners showed up for this great event.

50m dashLongbranch student, Tyquell B. participated in the 50m dash at the Midlothian Special Olympics Track Meet sponsored by the Partners in P.E.

 

 


assemblyLongbranch Elementary's celebrated during an assembly for Jump Rope for Heart. We raised $27,238.00 for the American Heart Association. The top students were recognized and the all the students got to see Just-A-Bieber and the Biebs. It was a great party!

 


Longbranch anthemStudents in Mrs. Mooring's classes studied the history behind The Star Spangled Banner and its meaning. Cooperative learning groups brainstormed ideas for a Longbranch anthem that would be reflective of their school. Landen G., Tristan P., & Rachel R. wrote the anthem titled "Longbranch Elementary is the One!" Watch their video


CitizenshipThird graders at Longbranch get rewarded for good citizenship during a visit from Midlothian Mayor Bill Houston.

 

 


Flag comparisonsMrs. Kalinec's Kindergarteners at Longbranch learned the flag of the Czech Republic is similar to the Texas flag during a skype lesson with her daughter's class in Prague.

 

 


Electricity testMr. McKinney's class were learning about electricity on Super Outrageous Science Day, at Longbranch. They had a hair raising time with the Van De Graff Generator.

 

 


SOS reactionFirst graders in Ms. Cowell's and Mrs. Herrod's classes were super scientists on SOS Day (Super Outrageous Science)! They enjoyed making Elephant Toothpaste and were amazed while watching the chemical reaction that is caused when water, yeast, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap are combined.


SOS skittlesLongbranch First graders in Ms. Cowell's and Mrs. Herrod's classes were super scientists on SOS Day (Super Outrageous Science)! They observed the colors in Skittles seperating and watched the S float to the top of the water.

 


pelletsLongbranch Elementary fifth grade scientists disected owl pellets as part of SOS day. They learned about food chains, food webs, and animals' niches in the ecosystem.

100th dayKindergarten friends, in Mrs. Savins class, at Longbranch Elementary are feeling 100 days older (and smarter) as they celebrate the 100th day of school!

 

 


famous people projectMrs. Terrell's 2nd grade students from Longbranch Elementary dressed up and presented an oral report on a famous person as a part of their guided reading assignment.

 

 


100 cubesMrs. Robbins ESL students made a 100 stick by making 10 groups of 10 cubes with different patterns. When joined together the cubes were as tall as the doorway. WOW!!!

Artic projectsLongbranch first graders, in Mrs. Cowell's class, did a research project on Artic animals. They learned many interesting facts and enjoyed sharing their fantastic projects!

 

 


JRFH groupMrs. Savins' kindergarten class at Longbranch celebrates the Jump Rope for Heart kick-off by writing a letter to Justin Bieber asking him to visit Longbranch and join in to help raise money for JRFH.

 


Jump Rope For Heart pic 1Longbranch Choir and "Fire Jumpers" participated in a Jump Rope for Heart Kick-off assembly. Student and staff are trying to raise $30,000 for the American Heart Association. Longbranch ranked 2nd in the state of Texas and 30th in the Nation last year.

 

Jump Rope For Heart pic 2Elliott M. from Longbranch Elementary talked about his heart survivor story at the Jump Rope for Heart Kick-off assembly. Elliott was born with a congenital heart defect and has undergone 4 surgeries. The money that is rasied for the American Heart Association goes to research, and ongoing discoveries of new treatmesnts, technologies and preventions are vital to saving and changing lives. Longbranch students and staff are trying to raise $30,000 for this organization.

Jump Rope For Heart pic 3Longbranch had an awesome Jump Rope for Heart Kick-off assembly and Justin McBieber, (Matt McCool) was there. Students are trying to raise $30,000 for the American Heart Association get the "Real" Justin Bieber to recognize and join our efforts in this BIG project.


Mr. Burge VisitLongbranch Student Council provided and had lunch with Duke Burge to show appreciation for serving on the school board. Thank you Mr. Burge!

Book StudyMrs. Germany's second grade students at Longbranch begin a book study! The students will be reading 'Chocolate Touch'.

 

 


iPod Touch workThank you to Mrs. Simmons, Longbranch's media/technology specialist, who conducted a lesson on internet research for Mrs. Prindle's fourth graders using iPod Touches. They learned about evaluating websites, correctly citing sources and being careful not to plagiarize.


ResolutionsKindergarten at Longbranch welcomed the New Year writing resolutions designed for the class and each student!

 

 


Reindeer DashersLongbranch Elementary students and staff had a great time participating in the Reindeer Dash. We ran and made our bodies healthy for a great cause, the "Special Olympics".

 

 


Christmas TreesLongbranch students learned about the history of Christmas trees in P.E. They got to be very creative decorating their classmates as Christmas trees.

stackersLongbranch Elementary helped break a Guinness World record in sport stacking on November 17. The goal for this year is 350,000 stackers. Sport Stacking is an amazing sport that promotes fitness, agility, concentration and quickness.

 


Wampums2nd grade students at Longbranch Elementary enjoyed using the wampums they earned to purchase homemade items from their peers at our annual Trade Days.

 

 


CBI ThanksgivingLongbrach CBI played a Wampanoag Indian game of Hubbub before they enjoyed their Thanksgiving feast with the class.

Career SpeakerLongbranch 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders learned about careers during Career Week. Mr. Crawford came and told about his adventures being a pilot for American Airlines.

 

 


Kindergarten salute VetsMrs. Benner's Longbranch Kindergarteners pay tribute to our veterans by creating soldiers and writing about our nation's heroes. These students wrote "Soliders are brave, fight for our freedom, and love the USA."

 


Sound testLongbranch 4th graders in Mr. McKinney's class are discovering what makes sound and learning that sound must carry through a medium. They tested a lab to find out which medium (solid, liquid, or gas) sound travels best through.

owl pelletsMiss Watkins' first graders learned about the eating habits of owls by dissecting owl pellets. They dug through the fur and bones to discover what the owls had eaten. Morgan S. was not excited about it first - but later, ended up loving the hands on experience!!!

 


QR CodesMrs. Terrell's class was excited to get to spend the day with Faith and Sweetpea, friends from the counselor, on Friday. Our special friends saw us make and scan QR Codes. We used QR codes to solve math problems and students made codes to ask Mrs. Madden, Mrs. Nix and Mrs. Simmons a question.

Mt Peak VisitorEthan H., from Mt. Peak Elementary, came to speak to 5th graders at Longbranch. He has an amazing story about how he has been battling cancer for the last 16 months. He attributes his recovery to his positive attitude and perseverence.

They are all learning how to sign the song "Born to be Somebody" and learning how they are meant to be special no matter who they are.
