On Wednesday May 16, 2012, the Midlothian 7th grade golf team competed in the district tournament at Walnut Creek Country Club. The golf team competed against middle schools from Cedar Hill and Mansfield, and they represented Midlothian very well with their playing ability and their class and character.
The 7th grade girls won the first ever Middle school district golf championship, winning by 19 shots, and Caroline Traylor won the individual district championship. In the boys division, The Midlothian Blue team finished runner up for the second year in a row, this year losing by only 1 shot. The Midlothian White team finished in 5th place. It was a great showing by the boys and girls and a great way to end the season.

Congratulations to all the nominees that participated in the Mr. FSMS Pageant on Friday. Raby Hampton was crowned Mr. FSMS out of 16 nominees. Everyone here at FSMS are very proud of all of the students talents during the pageant.
Congratulations to the FSMS Choirs! This year at the Sandy Lake FunFest Choral Competition, the Combined Choirs received straight "1's" for their performance of "Choral Highlights from Grease" arranged by Roger Emerson. The choir consisted of 94 students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Frank Seale Middle School inducted new 7th grade candidates into National Junior Honor Society. The evenings induction ceremony explained the underlying principles of NJHS. Principal Dee Arterburn began the ceremony with a brief introduction followed by co-sponsor Brian Garrison who explained the meaning of the NJHS torch. The five aims of NJHS were presented by the officers. President Brooke Taylor led with Scholarship, Vice-President Reagan Rushing explained Leadership, Service was introduced by Secretary Anna Curran followed by Treasurer Abbie Adams speaking to Character and Historian Hannah Yarbrough concluded with Citizenship. Students accepted their certificate as each one crossed the stage. The call to induction was stated by co-sponsor Amy Penny-Lowe. A reception concluded the nights ceremony.
FSMS Stage production students are providing FSMS teachers with breakfast this week in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. FSMS student enjoy a visit with theater arts teacher Mrs. Penny-Lowe while she enjoys breakfast in the commons area.
This Saturday, May 5th at 2:00pm; FSMS Stage Production will present their Student Directed Spring production of Raggedy Ann and Andy. Admission is free and the doors to the mezzanine will open for general seating in the Cub Cafe at 1:30.
FSMS students protecting their fort trying not to be tagged while having a great time at the NJHS Sponsored Tristen Fort Memorial Scholarship Fund Powder Puff Game, Saturday at Don Floyd Stadium. Hope you were able to come see all the action during the game, it was a great success!
The 7th grade students of FSMS took on the different roles of the ecosystem on Wednesday as they tried to survive in the Food Chain game. The students were assigned a role in their ecosystem and then went to work obtaining the food, water, and shelter they needed. They did all this while trying to survive and avoid being "eaten" by others or ravaged by natural disaster and disease in their ecosystem.
FSMS 6th grade Science has been working on researching NASA Space Explorations. Mrs. Richmond's student Matthew L. dressed up as Neil Armstrong from the Apollo 11 mission as part of his researching space exploration.
Congratulations to FSMS student Tommy Allred for appearing on his favorite television show, "The Clark Howard Show".
This show is all about saving money. Tommy has worked very hard to save his money and was given advise on

Congratulations to FSMS Junior FFA student Morgan Key for winning Grand Champion Goat, Jr. Lamb & Goat Showmanship Champion and Reserve Champion Fine Wool Cross Lamb at the Ellis County Ag Show.
The FSMS Cub Reporters sponsored a book drive to benefit the Half Pint Library sponsored by Half Price Books. FSMS was one of 51 schools nation wide that participated in this event. FSMS students donated 242 gently used books, which will bebefit local non profit organizations and schools in need.
The middle school Community Problem Solvers began the construction of their greenhouse made of recycled materials. On April 21, they are hosting a grand opening celebration at a "Community Yard Sale" located at Frank Seale Middle School. Contact Christina McDaniel at FSMS to donate items for the yard sale.
FSMS 7th grade students studied Texas Independence from Mexico in 1836 and then transitioned into the 9 years we spent as an independent nation, The Republic of Texas 1836-1845.
Students were asked to complete a flag for the new country of Texas, they were also asked to write a summary explaining their flag color meaning and symbols used.
Ms. Witherspoon and Ms. Callahan pulled finalist from each one of their class'. Six finalist were chosen from each teacher and then posted in the library where students used an online application to secretly cast a vote for their favorite flag. Faculty and staff also voted. Congratulations to Avery S. & Austin P. the winners who received a gift card and a reward ticket to use in their social studies class.
FSMS students gave a big "Thumbs Up & GO CUBS" after having a great time at electives night.
Student proudly presented their many talents in their elective classes with cooking skills, dancing, band and drama performances. Everyone here at FSMS are very proud of their accomplishments and electives night was a tremendous success!
FSMS hosted its 4th 6 weeks Attendance Bingo Party on Friday, March 2.
Congratulations to all the students that had perfect attendance during the 4th 6 weeks,
and to the top six winners who won a prepaid Visa card during the Perfect Attendance Bingo Party.
Anthony Padilla, FSMS sixth grade student and chess club member, recently won the Hidden Lakes Scholastic Winter Chess Tournament held in Keller, TX. Anthony won the unrated K-12 section of the tournament by winning 5 straight matches against opponents of different age levels. This was the first tournament in which Anthony has played and he certainly showed his skill and determination in making FSMS very proud!
FSMS SHINE leaders Dakota W. And Victoria S.C show their musical talents as they practice rehearsing "Mean" by: Taylor Swift. The video of them will be aired on CUB News TV in support of FSMS anti-bullying cause through the My In10tion Club.
FSMS 7th grade science students are learning about the systems of the human body. The students explore during a hands-on experience with the systems inside of a frog. They compare and contrast the similarities and differences in the two organisms and a get a first hand look at real organs.
FSMS Spanish students took part in creating their own aprons to wear while serving as food hosts for electives night here at FSMS on Tuesday February 28th at 6:30. Hope to see you there!
FSMS 8th grade Pre-AP Science students displayed their Recycle Projects. Each student was to use items around the house that could be recycled to create a new product which could be used around the house.
FSMS Community Problem Solvers have been collecting water bottles to create their own greenhouse. They are starting to make some progress but still need more. Please send all your empty water bottles so they can keep building their greenhouse.
Students in Mrs. Griffith's 6th grade ELA classes recently completed and presented research projects over five of Dr. Seuss's political works. Students researched the ties to American History of The Butter Battle Book (The Cold War), The Sneetches (Civil Rights Movement), Horton Hears a Who (America's postwar occupation of Japan), Yertle the Turtle (WWII/Hitler), and The Lorax (Pollution and Deforestation effects in America). After examining Seuss's biography including the beginning of his career as a political cartoonist, students used research techniques to find Seuss's political agenda tied to their assigned book; they then analyzed the book and the historical event to find specific ties and refernces Seuss used. Other group members wrote, published, and illustrated original "Loose Seuss" books dealing with a particular political theme 6th graders face today. Some groups chose themes such as bullying, divorce, or cheating in school. Other group members assembled the entire project for presentation and created a set design or prop and a costume associated to their assigned Seuss book or original "Loose Seuss" creation.
Seventh grade science students are learning about the nervous system. We have discussed how different nerves carry messages to the brain and spinal cord so the body can respond to stimuli. The students are testing their reaction time to see how quick their reflex response time is.
FSMS 8th grader Raby H. is looking to make a perfect pass at the right moment during the FSMS 8th grade boys "B" Basketball game.
What is CSI Neverland you ask? It is a fantastically funny play in which CSI meets Neverland in comedic mayhem. Murk and Tinker, Fairy Forensics Officers, are investigating the mysterious murder of Peter Pantaloon's shadow. Their prime suspect is Head Librarian Brenda Brooks who despises Seuss, Hogwarts, giant peaches, as well as the boy who refuses to grow up. As Peter laments the loss of his shadow the detectives whisk Brenda away and throw her into a lineup with the infamous Captain Sharp. Did Brenda kill Peter's shadow? Could it have been a dastardly plot of the villain Captain Sharp? Who knows, but Lt. Tinker is on the case along with her Lab Rats who are sure to discover the mastermind behind this heinous criminal act.
7th grade science students are learning about the respiratory and circulatory system. They are figuring out how their pulse rate changes when they exercise to show how important oxygen is when we expend energy. They are also learning about their varying lung capacities. We are exploring both of these systems and how they work closely together to bring oxygen to our cells and get rid of waste.
Congrats, FSMS Choir Students! We had 7 students be selected for Region Honor Choir this year. This is a very competitive audition process that requires a lot of practice at home and at school.
Frank Seale Middle School conducted its annual School Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 12th. In order to participate, contestants first competed at the classroom level and then advanced to the school-wide bee. A total of 38 contestants were eligible to compete. After 25 rounds, Hannah Paduch, an 8th grader at FSMS, won the bee by correctly spelling both "isthmus," and "heritage." Rachel Keener, a sixth grader at FSMS, went all the way to the end with Hannah and will be Frank Seale's alternate. Congratulations and good luck to Hannah as she moves on to the County Spelling Bee on February 13th. We are so proud of all our Cub participants!
Mrs. Witherspoons 7th grade Social Studies class studied Chapter 9 Stations in which the they created colonial newspapers reflecting life in Colonial Texas, circa 1825-1835.
Art students are recreating a famous masterpiece on ceiling tiles for FSMS.
Student Valerie M. picked a famous painting by Vincent van Gogh: Starry Night and recreated it by using her keen observational skills.

Ben Frosch grew a rock crystal garden in class as part of Cub Character Camp on Fridays. The featured character trait was persistance. Ben learned that applying perisitence, adding trusting relationships to help guide him and creativity to unpleasant tasks (represent by black coal) beautiful things can result. Ben's blue, green and yellow crystal rock garden was produced from coal.
The Cub Reports are sponsoring a canned food drive to benefit the Senior Citizens Center of Midlothian. The reporters will be delivering the food to the center before Thanksgiving.
The Chemical Change Lab helped the students understand the difference between a chemical and a physical change. The students used two different substances to create a brand new substance with different properties. Examples of a chemical change could include a color change, creating a solid (precipitate), or change in heat.
Texas Lone Star list author, Jason Henderson, with FSMS students on his visit to our school. Jason is the author of the popular Alex Van Helsing series, which includes the titles, Alex Van Helsing: Vampire Rising and Alex Van Helsing: Voice of the Undead, a fantasy/adventure series written for the middle school age group. Members of the FSMS Vampire Rising Book Club enjoyed visiting with Jason and getting his autograph!
FSMS Boys Choir practiced singing "Sons of Art" by Emily Crocker & "Who Will Be a Witness" arranged by Donald Moore for the officestaff. The Girls Choir (pictured right) practiced singing "Spring Quiet" by Emily Crocker &"Mama Don't 'Low" arranged by Earlene Rentz.
8th graders participated in a chemical change lab during science class to see if the chemical experiment resulted in a physical or chemical change.
FSMS 7th graders explored different types of cells & organisms. They used organelles from the cells to create images for their projects. The students bought all their own supplies, showing great effort and creativity. The projects turned our great!
FSMS 8th grader Morgan Key made it to the premium sale with her market goat at the State Fair of Texas 2011.
Eighth grade mathematics students Haley Cannon and Fisher Pearce are working on an activity about indirect measurement outside Frank Seale MS. They measured their heights, shadows, and even the shadow of a tree. By doing this they determined the height of the tree, without actually measuring the tree itself.
The 7th graders at FSMS explored the steps of the scientific method using different types of diet soda and mentos.
The FSMS Cheerleaders visited the Midlothian Fire Department last week to say 'thank you' for all the their hard work! The cheerleaders and their parents baked brownies, cookies, and cupcakes!
During Cub Character Camp, student Joshua Payne learns the steps of the scientific method he shines pennies with salsa. Students also learned the character traits of effort and a positive attitude will make them SHINE at what they do.
8th Grade Mathematics students at FSMS enjoyed adding and subtracting integers by playing a math card game called Twenty-Five.
7th Grade Social Studies students at FSMS prepared for their South America map test using a free app from the App Store called TapQuiz Maps World Edition. This app also helped them prepare for the 50 US states quiz. This app is available for both the iPad and iPod Touch. Because students are allowed to bring their own devices with teacher permission this year, a 7th grade student brought her iPad and worked with others to prep for their quiz.
