"Senior Tour" Day a Success
Posted: 4/13/09

Midlothian ISD hosted its first annual "Senior Tour" day for local senior citizens on March 27. With much enthusiasm, thirty-five seniors eagerly toured LaRue Miller Elementary School and were interviewed by students, entertained by the choir, and toured the recycle pump well system. Next, the seniors were greeted by the Frank Seale Middle School Student Council members, who escorted them to the library. They were served a warm lunch, listened to the FSMS/WGMS Problem Solvers showcase their projects, and toured the newly renovated campus. Their final destination was at the Midlothian High School where the MHS show choir sang several show-tunes in the state-of-the art auditorium. Students in the engineering and radio/TV classes had a tremendous impact on the seniors. See Pics

Midlothian ISD Meets Adequate Yearly Progress 5 Years in a Row
Midlothian ISD has once again met all requirements for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards established by the Texas Education Agency in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act.  Despite the increasing standards, MISD is proud that each campus also met the AYP requirements.

All public school campuses and school districts are required to meet AYP criteria on 35 indicators that measure reading/language arts, mathematics, and either graduation rate or attendance rate. The standard to meet AYP in mathematics increased from 42 percent in 2006 to 50 percent in 2007.

TEA reports that eighty-six percent of the 1,056 Texas school districts and seventy-nine percent of the 6,374 individual schools met the federal AYP requirements in 2007.

Superintendent Dr. Kennedy says, "This is just one example of the hard work and achievements of our students and teachers."

AYP ratings for schools and districts are available on the Texas Education Agency website here.
